The Google unit had filed the complaint in August over seven patents. There still remains another complaint with the ITC.

Motorola Mobility, a unit of Google, yesterday withdrew a complaint against Apple -- its second one -- from the U.S. International Trade Commission.

The complaint involved the infringement of seven non-essential standards patents that Motorola accused Apple of violating, according to Foss Patents, which first spotted the move.

It's a surprise move given the trend of escalating legal battles between Apple and its various opponents, from Samsung Electronics to Motorola.

What's surprising is Motorola just filed the complaint in August, and there isn't any reason given for the withdrawal. Two weeks ago, the ITC said it would look at the complaint.

A withdrawal could signal a possible resolution to the conflict between Motorola and Apple, but Foss Patent's Florian Mueller, a legal consultant, noted that the filling, which became public today, explicitly states that there are no agreements between the two parties.

Mueller floated the idea that Motorola withdrew its complaint after Administrative Law Judge Theodore Essex began looking at the case, noting that Judge Essex often puts up a high bar for complaints.

"Maybe it's not just a coincidence that Motorola withdrew its complaint shortly after his appointment," he said in his blog.

CNET has contacted Motorola and Apple for comment. We'll update the story when the companies respond.

Apple remains embroiled in legal entanglements with several Android vendors. Samsung, for instance, filed its lawsuit against Apple to include the iPhone 5 in its complaint, while a judge dismissed a U.S. ban on the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Question by Geekman: How do you "shop" for a good financial advisor? ...also, do advisors most commonly charge a flat fee or a percentage of their client's gains? Best answer for How do you "shop" for a good financial advisor?:

Answer by Franco
The best way to chose FAs is by personal recommendation, which is not often possible. Other wise, you can only go by pot luck and first impression when you contact them. You can pay either by fee, according to the work involved, or if you are buying something, by commission from the investment provider. Ask for a cost quotation before hand. The former method is better, if you can afford it, as it avoids bias.

Answer by ADUB
You should educate yourself and become your own financial advisor. Seek a mentor!

Answer by lithium630
Make sure you hire a fee only financial adviser. Most advisers make their money by selling you crap investments. The worse the investment, the higher their commission. You want an adviser that is paid for unbiased advice.

Question by Justanian: What is meant by a "Bucket Shop" in stock market parlance? I am reading the book by Edwin Lefevre called "Reminiscences of a stock market operator" Best answer for What is meant by a "Bucket Shop" in stock market parlance?:

Answer by jwishz
An unofficial and usually illegal betting operation in which the prices of stocks and commodities are posted and the customers bet on the rise and fall of prices without actually buying stock, commodities, or commodity futures. Bucket shops are seldom seen today since there are many opportunities to gamble legally on the stock and commodities markets.

Answer by Franco
Crooked brokers who sell you rubbish or non-existing stock. They usually phone you directly, they are quite knowledgeable and well spoken and very persistent. Put the phone down on them.

Answer by CaromCapital.com
Bucket Shop in the book you are reading refers to the non regulated shops where you could trade stocks/commodities, etc. that Jesse Livermore did in Reminiscences of a Stock Market Operator. One of the great lessons Livermore learned from these shops was that when he the issue he was trading broke below a certain price, it was all or nothing and he lost his money for the day. As a result he learned the concept of risk management, i.e. cut your losses and move on to the next day. Also, he learned market psychology by witnessing others in the room of these 'bucket shops' and this is one way he learned to be one of the great traders of all time, and actually be short during the Market Crash of 1929!

Bucket Shop refers to brokerage firms who do not have very high ethical or moral standards. They "churn" accounts - let customer trades heavily to generate commissions, They sell securities from inventory at high or questionable markups They recommend penny stocks or low priced securities that are not suitable for investments They do extensive "cold calling" for clients The push (recommend) producst that have higher than normal commissions and/or markups Bucket Shops are still out there, and many novices or those looking for some cheap trades usually find them,

Answer by phipsi32
1. A fraudulent brokerage firm that uses aggressive telephone sales tactics to sell securities that the brokerage owns and wants to get rid of. The securities they sell are typically poor investment opportunities, and almost always penny stocks. 2. A brokerage that makes trades on a client's behalf and promises a certain price. The brokerage, however, waits until a different price arises and then makes the trade, keeping the difference as profit. 1. Bucket shops are sometimes called the boiler room. The U.S. has laws restricting bucket shop practices by limiting the ability of brokerage houses to create and trade certain types of over-the-counter securities. 2. The second definition for a bucket shop comes from over 50 years ago, when bucket shops would do trades all day long, throwing the ticket into a bucket. At the end of the day they would decide which accounts to award the winning and losing trades. http://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/bucketshop.asp

Question by CandsW: How often do you have to groom your dog professionally at a "barber shop"? My sisters and I are trying to persuade our parents to let us get a dog. So we have to search up LOTS of information. It's between toy poodle, westie, shih tzu, or havanese. Can you explain the grooming details for each dog? Thanks so much! Other info is also appreciated. Best answer for How often do you have to groom your dog professionally at a "barber shop"?:

Answer by Ahuff
Firstly they are called grooming salons or something of that nature-not barber shops. Most of those dogs require lots of grooming work. Toy poodles-Very rigorous grooming. Since the dog doesn't have fur, but has hair the dog must be well kept. Bathing, brushing, clipping will all be done regularly. Brushing will be done daily, bathing and clipping at least every 4 to 6 weeks. Each time you visit a groomer with this breed of dog you're looking to spend 60-100 bucks per visit. Westie-Not as much grooming. Most attention should be paid attention to the face, you should clean it every day since food can get stuck in the front whiskers of the fur coat. Normally these dogs get something similar to a puppy cut. Short and scruffy. I'm not sure for prices, it'll be less than a poodle though. Shih Tzu-Once again, like the toy poodle-lots of grooming. Brush daily, bath and groom every 4 to 7 weeks. If you're going for the long coat you might brush them twice a day. If you get the Shih Tzu puppy cut it will be A LOT less grooming involved. It'll cost around 30-60 bucks depending where you go, how much fur is on the dog already, etc. Havanese-The coat can be clipped short for easier care. But if you keep the coat long, it'll need to be thoroughly brush and combed at least twice a week. Show dog cuts need a great deal more grooming. There is little to no shedding, so dead hair must be removed by brushing. Check the eyes and ears regularly. Prices can range. Other info-you can always look online or watch shows. Books from libraries-as cheesy as that sounds-provide a great deal of info. Good luck!

I have a westie and it is every 6 to 8 weeks that he goes to a groomer. I think they are all about the same. Prices can vary from place to place.

Answer by bluebonnetgranny
To keep the those dogs groomed & looking nice most of the time you need to have them groomed every 4 to 6 weeks. If you have them shaved down to short short, Like for the summer, about every 10 weeks is about right. If you let them grow out during the winter you will need to brush & brush & brush & brush over & over every day to keep them mat free. If you do not keep up the brushing & have to have them stripped in the spring cause they are so matted, you will be charged a mat fee. I never groomed a Havanese so I don't know much about that one. You might want to check out the different grooming clips of the individual dogs.

Answer by BS
I dont take my dog to the groomers and he is a golden retriever (long hair and hard to keep clean). I clean him myself, and with it being a small dog it will be even easier to groom
