Deutsche Telekom says that it has reached an agreement with MetroPCS to combine the smaller prepaid carrier with T-Mobile USA, its nationwide U.S. wireless operator.
Deutsche Telekom, parent company to T-Mobile USA, said Wednesday it has struck a merger deal with prepaid regional carrier MetroPCS.

(Credit: T-Mobile USA )According to the agreement, MetroPCS shareholders will get $ 1.5 billion in cash and a 26 percent stake in the combined company. Deutsche Telekom will own the remaining 74 percent of the company.
The deal requires regulatory approval from the Federal Communications Commission and U.S. Department of Justice. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2013.
"We are extremely pleased to announce this transaction with MetroPCS, which enhances Deutsche Telekom's position in the expanding U.S. wireless market," said René Obermann, Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Telekom said in a statement. "The T-Mobile and MetroPCS brands are a great strategic fit - both operationally and culturally. The new company will be the value leader in wireless with the scale, spectrum and financial and other resources to expand its geographic coverage, broaden choice among all types of customers and continue to innovate, especially around the next-generation LTE network. We are committed to creating a sustainable and financially viable national challenger in the U.S., and we believe this combination helps us deliver on that commitment."
Deutsche Telekom hopes that by combining the two smaller wireless providers they will be able to better compete against AT&T and Verizon Wireless.
The companies will host a conference call at 10:30 a.m ET / 7:30 a.m. PT to discuss the transaction.

Depends on the contract between the union and your employer. If it is a closed shop, you will be required to join.

I don't think you HAVE to join a union. It's recommended that you do, but I don't think they can force you to unless it's in your contract. Check your fine print.

It depends on two things: 1) the state in which you live, and 2) the union security clause in the contract. If you live in a so-called "right to work" state, you do not have to join. However, if you work in a state that allows enforceable union security clauses in contracts, and your union contract has such a clause, you have to abide by it, meaning, you have to join. If you don't join, in most cases the union can require the company to move you to a non-union represented job.

Well, if you want to drink coffee in Amsterdam, you could be just about any age, but I'm guessing you want something a little different in those coffee shops. So, you have to wait a few more years for that.

They may or may not check your ID in the coffeeshops, but you can still order a beer if you're over 16.

I was just there and they have signs at the coffee shops that say you have to be 18 and they DO ID. I really don't think a 17 year old should be wandering the streets of Amsterdam with out parents. And I want to smack your 17 year old face for talking about "whore houses". I have seen little shits like you get drunk and stones and then get the shit beaten out of them for monthing people off. THEN they go to jail. Amsterdam may be free in some ways but I don't think they will put up with too much crap from dumb kids. Go to Amsterdam, see the wax museum, you could even go to the Heiniken brewery. The reichsmusuem is great.

You must be 18 year old to go to the coffee shops but you can do many other things there. It really doesn't matter that you don't speak Dutch they all speak English.

IF you look your age then forget about going into a coffeeshop. If you can pass for older you MAY be able to sneak in and buy some w/out getting carded. ALL coffeeshops though can only sell to 18 and over...but with all laws they are broken. Legal drinking age is 16 so you're straight there. and a "damn 17 year-old (non-Dutch speaking...) tourist" can do TONS in Amsterdam...you just have to be open minded. Rent a bike and discover the city. Check out all the random galleries and shops. I higly recommend the Anne frank House, Rijks museum and Van gogh.

Being a pretty Dutchman I can confirm the legal age of entering a coffee shop (here being translated to a shop where you might blow drug cigarettes) is 18 years and older. Legally spoken the shop owner has to check your ID in case of doubt and/or security. However I can't recommend you to enter such a shop. Why should you be prepared to challenge your health? What do you expect from experiencing those drug? It isn't the LOL you are anticipating from! Be welcome in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Haque and many other cities, but I like to see you there in a healthy condition. Have fun.

The possibility of Apple releasing a smaller iPad seems a bit more likely, with a report Wednesday that the tablet is already on the production line. Apple suppliers are kicking into high gear for the project, according to a Wall Street Journal article that cites unnamed sources “with knowledge of the situation.â€
The report largely confirms much of what’s already been floating around about the mini iPad: it will have a 7.85-inch display and is expected to be announced this month.

A mini iPad has the potential to do a couple of good things for Apple. Grabbing a piece of that market would be great for Apple, and many analysts believe Apple would come to dominate the space.
The smaller form factor would help the company sell its wares to commuters who may find the iPhone screen too small for reading and browsing. Plus, a lower price point could help the company snatch even more of the tablet market â€" according to an August IHS report, at least 64 percent of the market belongs to the iPad.
On the flip side, Macworld’s Dan Moren wrote Wednesday that he thinks the timing of such a release is not quite right.
“Sure, launching an iPad mini right now would position the device for a blockbuster holiday release,†he wrote. But he doesn’t think that a smaller iPad is enough to warrant its own major event. And the iPad, he pointed out, generally gets its refresh in March.
With all the chatter about Apple becoming a company of iteration, not innovation, Moren thinks that releasing a smaller iPad with all the pomp of a new product will invite even more criticism.
As always, Apple hasn’t even confirmed the existence of a mini iPad. So even with production rumors, leaks of supposed images of the device and a clear spot in the market, people should remember that everything out there is pure speculation.
As is always the case with Apple, we won’t know exactly what they’re doing until there’s an executive up on stage, so it’s best for Apple fans to just sit back and enjoy the buzz. Rumor has it that invitations to an event for a mini iPad are coming next week, so at least we won’t have long to wait.

In the face of the iPhone 5 and the recent legal verdict against Samsung, the S3 is still enjoying huge demand, says mobile analytics firm Localytics.

Samsung's Galaxy S3 isn't being thwarted by little things like the iPhone 5 or jury verdicts.
Since August 1, sales of the S3 have seen average weekly growth of 9 percent, following by big spikes after the Apple lawsuit verdict and the iPhone 5 announcement, according to Localytics.
Sales of new S3 phones jumped 16 percent from August 21 to August 27. On August 24, a jury in California found Samsung guilty of patent infringement, awarding Apple more than $ 1 billion in damages.
The focus on Samsung and the notion that its phones were similar in some ways to the iPhone may have contributed to the sales bump, suggests Localytics. Many users may also have feared a ban on Samsung products in light of the jury verdict, causing them to rush out to buy a device before it was too late.
The second spike was seen from September 11 to September 17, when sales climbed by 15 percent. On September 12, Apple announced the iPhone 5 at a launch event.
The prior week, sales growth for the Galaxy S3 was flat, according to Localytics. Consumers eyeing a new smartphone were likely waiting to hear about the iPhone 5 before deciding which phone to buy. Many may have felt that the iPhone 5 offered no significant advantages over the S3, triggering the spike in sales after September 12.
Even without the spikes, the S3's average weekly growth rate of 9 percent has stayed firm, which means Samsung is seeing heavy demand despite, or perhaps because of, the iPhone 5.
Localytics sells software to app developers that can measure the use of their apps. To compile its data for this report, the firm analyzed the number of Galaxy S3 phones running apps that tap into its analytics. It then determined the weekly growth in new S3 handsets around the world.
